Importance of Fashion & Dressing Professionally - Fashion Techniques

Clothing is and has always been one of the most important aspects of Human Life. What started as mere protection for body & skin from Harsh weather conditions & way to cover our body has now evolved to something that defines the personality of people.

Clothing or dressing when done right, makes us feel attractive and provides us with a boost in confidence. It's not just about protecting anymore, instead, it's also about projecting and making a statement. For that to happen, one needs to have a good fashion sense and knowledge of ongoing fashion trends. In this post, I will talk about the importance of Fashion and specifically about dressing professionally. This one is going to be a relatively smaller and simpler post.

You might have heard of the phrase Dressing for the Occasion. Though it's cheesy, the line kind of stands important as well. You can’t go to an interview wearing a casual party shirt and shorts; similarly, you can’t go to a party wearing a formal shirt, trousers, and a tie. That would look odd, won’t it? I don’t think there is a need for me to explain the phrase Dressing for the Occasion in an elaborate manner. I am assuming you are smart enough to understand that with just the examples I gave you. Fashion acts on a Psychological level as well and there is a whole field in fashion called Fashion Psychology. You can learn more about it here.

If you are still reading this post, I assume you are someone who has an immense interest in Fashion. So, what is the importance of Dressing professionally?

Dressing professionally does not mean that you wear a formal shirt tuck it in your trousers and wear a tie and formal shoes that go with the dress. I would be so uncomfortable with that. I hate tucking in shirts and I hate formal wear personally. What do I do? Well, I figure out a way to make my casual wear look professional. Fashion & dressing is more about being comfortable with what you wear.

Dressing professionally will help you get that boost in confidence and will make people take you more seriously when you talk.

The clothes you select based on the occasion, time, or mood tells a lot about your taste. The way that you choose your dress/clothes takes a lot of planning, trial, and errors. But, at the bottom of it, it's more of intuition than a carefully put together plan. But the way you feel while choosing clothes also affects your choices. You might not realize it yourself unless someone points it out and asks you about it.

Fashion is not a common thing among everyone. Though there are trends and “Cool” attire out there, it's still something that differs from person to person based on the person’s feelings, thinking as well as his/her perception.

In an ideal world, people should be judged not based on their clothes or attire and instead based on their character. But we live in a world where attire is how you will be judged and your attire kind of decides how people are going to treat you. If you have dressed professionally, people will take you seriously about everything you go to say. If you are not, the chances of that happening are a bit slim. The best example of this is a person going for a job interview. The first impression that you are going to give an interviewer is completely based on how you have dressed. You can’t expect to be hired if the first impression you delivered to the interviewer is a negative one because you failed to dress for the occasion and dress professionally. Dressing professionally for a job interview shows that you care about the job and you are not there just for the heck of it.

It tells a lot about a person and usually, the first impression a person gets from you sticks in their mind forever and I have personally experienced this.

Nevertheless, I believe we dress to please ourselves in the first place and before anyone else. Dressing well allows one to gain self-confidence and that is an important aspect of communication. Good communication skills can be obtained easily if one decides to choose what to wear wisely.

Although I believe that clothes reveal a person’s personality. I believe there is no excuse for someone to treat another badly for their clothing.
